Team Illinois Girls 14U are the 2007 National Champions
14U News

Team Illinois Girls 14U are the 2007 National ChampionsCongratulations to all the Team Illinois girls U 14 players, coaches, and parents on their National Championship victory! Our 2006 -2007 TI girls U14 team is the first Team Illinois girls team to have ever won a National Championship! Team Illinois has had some exceptional girls teams over the years but none have ever won the last game of the season like our 2006-2007 National Champion U 14 team!

Coach Emily Pemrick and her entire coaching staff have done a tremendous job leading this team to their championship! The team won all six of their games at the National tournament after having won the state title in multiple overtimes and then the district championship in Madison Wisconsin.

Every player dreams of winning this ultimate victory and every coach wants to lead their team to this title. Only one team in the United States at the end of every season is fortunate enough to win THE big game at the end of the year. Most players and coaches will never accomplish this goal. Coach Emily Pemrick, her coaching staff, and all the players will forever be National Champions! Congratulations on your incredible accomplishment. Everyone at Team Illinois is extremely proud of all of you!

The Regole Cup - A Charity Hockey Game

Plans are underway for The Regole Cup, a fundraiser to benefit the Anthony Regole Foundation for Spinal Cord Research and Rehabilitation. The event will feature the Chicago Blackhawks Alumni playing against the 4 Naperville/Aurora high school hockey teams. Among the Blackhawk Alumni on hand will be Naperville North Varsity Head Coach and Stanley Cup winner, Brian Noonan, Stan Mikita, Grant Mulvey, Cliff Koroll, Troy Murray and others. The Regole Cup is scheduled for Friday, April 20, 2007, at the Darien Sportsplex. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

On January 7, 2007, Gretchen and Michael Regole received the phone call that every parent fears. "This is the police. Your son has been in an accident." The Regoles are blessed that Anthony survived the accident; however it left him paralyzed from the waist down. The foundation has been created to help the Regoles defray their significant medical costs. In addition, five percent of the foundation's funds will be allocated to spinal cord research.

It goes without saying that support from the hockey community will make a difference as we reach out and help one of our own. There will be many ways to contribute both before and during the event including:

  • Pre-event Vacation raffle: $50 buys you a 1/100 chance to win 7 days accommodations in 2008 at the Morritts Tortuga Club, Grand Caymen Islands.
  • Pre-Event "Fill the Skate Day": Go to any of the Naperville Jewels on Saturday, April 7 and help us fill the skates. Players will be stationed at the doors, wearing their jerseys and accepting donations.
  • Pre-Event Skate with the Hawks Raffle: $25 buys you a chance to skate and be in the locker room with the Blackhawk alumni. Players must be 19 or older, have solid playing experience and carry a current USA hockey card.
  • Game Day: Silent Auction, "Pick Your Prize" Raffle, 50/50 Raffle, Chuck a Puck, Goal Sponsorship.
  • Make a Donation: Checks payable to: Anthony Regole Foundation. Memo Section: The Regole Cup. Mail to: Anthony Regole Foundation, c/o Anthony Nasharr, Two Prudential Plaza, 180 N. Stetson, Suite 4525, Chicago, IL 60601.
  • Sponsorship: Various levels are available, making it affordable for businesses as well as individuals.

We promise you a fun night of hockey for a most worthy cause. Come on out to Darien on Friday, April 20. Doors open at 6:30 pm. See you there.

Commenting on the 2006-07 Academic Award winners, MWEHL Girls representative Greg Thiess said “this is our second year of the MWEHL’s Academic Awards program, a program that honors the academic achievements of our players and recognizes the importance of academic excellence as a critical goal for our players to pursue.  With virtually all players in the MWEHL Girls Division planning to play college hockey, their academic achievements are an essential step to make those college hockey objectives a reality”. Thiess also noted that many of the Academic Award winners were previously selected for the MWEHL Girls Division’s All 1st, 2nd and Honorable Mention teams, saying that “with the time demands on our players throughout the league and the high competitive level of play by our teams, it is a tremendous accomplishment that these players have also achieved such success in their classrooms”.

The Midwest Elite Hockey League extends its thanks to Girls Division Academic Awards Coordinator Margaret Posig/Iraci, and to Assistant Coordinator Donna Rogers, for their work in coordinating this year’s program.  The league also congratulates all of its 2006-07 Academic Award winners.
