Delaney Calabrese to St. Mary’s University of Minnesota
The Team Illinois U19 Girls team is proud to announce that forward Delaney Calabrese has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for Coach Greg Moore at St. Mary’s University of Minnesota next fall! The Cardinals compete in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
The team hosts its home games in the heart of campus at Saint Mary’s University Ice Arena. Delaney plans to study marketing and will likely minor in business analytics and management.
Delaney chose St. Mary’s after a long involvement at the school. She has been attending the St. Mary’s Hockey camp on campus every year since she was 9 years old, even before the camp was hosted by the University. She also knows and has played hockey with several current members of the team, who immediately made her feel welcome.
St. Mary’s is the ideal fit for Delaney because of the nice mix of academics and athletics offered by the University. “I think Coach Moore is a great coach and I love the fact that the rink is located on campus,” explained Delaney. “When not being used for practice or games, student athletes are free to come out and use the ice to work on skills, skating or just to have fun. I love that we can get extra ice time whenever we want.”
“I also love the small campus and am really pleased with how St. Mary’s has set up their marketing program,” added Delaney. “They make it easy for students to achieve their core major and double and even triple major at the same time. To me that is a huge plus in thinking about my future.”
“Delaney is one of the hardest working and most consistent players I have ever had the pleasure of coaching,” noted Chad Wells, Team Illinois U19 Head Coach. “She is always pushing herself to be a better athlete and player, giving 100% all the time, and is the consummate teammate. She is also an exceptional student and leader. We are thrilled that she chose to join the TI U19 team for her senior year and are so happy for her with her commitment to St. Mary’s. I am confident she will be a huge asset to their program and look forward to seeing her continued success in hockey and life.”
Delaney is appreciative of the support she has gotten from her family and coaches over the years. She noted,” A big thank you to my parents – and especially my Dad – for all their support throughout my hockey career. They were so supportive in helping guide me through the college selection process. I really appreciate all of their time and energy in helping me in so many ways.”
