Playing History
- Grew up playing hockey in La Crosse, WI (Won 3 State Championships)
- Played 2 years of junior hockey for the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) under Mark Osiecki (Now OSU Head Coach)
- Played 4 years at the University of Wisconsin (WCHA) under current coach Mike Eaves
- Won the 2006 NCAA Division 1 College Hockey National Championship
Coaching History
- Coached Verona High School in Verona, WI for one season
- Coached the Twin Cities Northern Lights (MNJHL) Tier 3 Junior A team for two seasons Led them to the Tier 3 National Tournament and moved 12 players onto Division 3 college hockey and a handful to the NAHL.
- Coaching philosophy is to develop and move players on to the higher ranks of hockey through discipline, hard work, skill development and game teaching.

Nothing is more rewarding than having a past player call you a couple of years later, to talk with you about their successes, whether it be in hockey or life in general."
Girls 19U - John Wirth
John has been coaching for over 20 years, coaching both boys and girls in those two decades while in youth hockey. He has been at many levels, U10 Girls through Boys High School Varsity. John helped form the Girls Yellow Jacket program. This will be his fourth season with Team Illinois. He is looking to add to his two State Championships by going beyond his three state finalists, with the Girls.
